Cayla & Jack

September 5, 2026

Like many, COVID was a strange and isolating time, so a few of Cayla’s friends came up with the idea of getting pen pals to pass the time. Scrolling through her Instagram suggestions, the first name that popped up was Jack. His bio said he lived in Ohio…perfect, she thought, because that meant she’d never actually have to meet this stranger in real life.
Without overthinking it, she sent a message on May 12th, 2020 saying:
“Hi :) I’m Cayla, and I have a super random question… do you wanna be my pen pal?”
And just like that, the conversation began. They talked, shared stories, and quickly realized how much they had in common. their passions, dreams, and even little life experiences seemed to align perfectly. Before long, Cayla sent Jack a letter, only for him to reply that he wouldn’t be able to check his mail for a few weeks… because he was moving. To Florida. To the neighborhood right next to Cayla’s childhood home.
It was equal parts absurd and exciting, and by the time Jack flew down on July 1st, 2020, their connection was undeniable. That same night, Cayla and her friends may or may not have snuck into Jack’s new neighborhood, just in time for him to invite them all to play volleyball. They pretended they just happened to be there for something else, but in the end, the game brought everyone together.

From that day forward, Cayla, Jack, and their friends spent the entire month of July together; laughing, adventuring, and creating memories. And on July 29th, 2020, Jack officially asked Cayla to be his girlfriend the best way he knew how, by writing her a letter back.

Since then, every day has felt just like the first, filled with love, laughter, and endless adventures. And now, they can’t wait to start the greatest adventure of all, forever.
